About the operating temperature of rolling bearings

The working temperature of rolling bearings is given in the product design stage and the production and manufacturing process according to the material selection, heat treatment process and lubrication conditions during use. The specific situation is as follows:

I. Material selection

1. General bearings can be selected according to the national standard GB/T18254-2002 "High Carbon Chromium Bearing Steel" at normal working temperature (room temperature).

2. High temperature bearings with working temperature exceeding 300℃ can be selected according to YB688-2000 "Technical Conditions for High Temperature Bearing Steel Cr4MO4V".

3. Low temperature bearings (bearings with working temperature below -60℃) are usually made of stainless bearing steel 9Cr18 and 9Cr18Mo materials. They can be selected according to GB/T3086-1982 "Technical Conditions for High Carbon Chromium Stainless Bearing Steel", or beryllium bronze, ceramics and other materials can be selected.

2. Heat treatment process

1. When general-purpose bearings use high-carbon chromium bearing steel, the heat treatment process shall be carried out in accordance with the national machinery industry standard JB/T1255-2001 "Technical conditions for heat treatment of rolling bearing parts of high-carbon chromium bearing steel".

2. When the working temperature of high-temperature bearings is higher than 300°C, they can be used after being treated in accordance with JB/T2850-1993 "Technical conditions for heat treatment of rolling bearing parts of Cr4MO4V high-temperature bearing steel".

3. Low-temperature bearings can be used after being treated in accordance with JB/T1460-2002 "Technical conditions for heat treatment of rolling bearing parts of high-carbon chromium stainless steel".

3. Rolling bearing working temperature

1. When general-purpose bearings use high-carbon chromium bearing steel and are processed according to the above heat treatment process, the working temperature of the rolling bearing under normal working conditions (room temperature) shall be controlled in accordance with the relevant standard requirements, that is, after passing the life and reliability test and evaluation.

a. For the test regulations, see the 5th test condition and 5.4th item of JB/T50013-2000 "Rolling Bearing Life and Reliability Test Procedure": The outer ring temperature of the bearing is not allowed to exceed 80℃ when grease lubrication is used; it is not allowed to exceed 95℃ when oil lubrication is used.

b. For the test and evaluation, see the 6th test condition and 6.2th item of GB/T24607-2009 "Rolling Bearing Life and Reliability Test and Evaluation" national standard: When circulating oil lubrication is used, the outer ring temperature of the bearing should generally not exceed 95℃; when grease lubrication is used, the outer ring temperature of the bearing should generally not exceed 80℃.

2. Bearing operating temperature under high temperature conditions:

a. Rolling bearings are made of high carbon chromium bearing steel, and the operating temperature is between 150℃ and 350℃. According to the JB/T2974 standard, when the operating temperature is between 150℃ and 350℃, the bearing model suffix can be marked with S0~S4 respectively to indicate it.

b. Rolling bearings use high-temperature bearing steel, and their operating temperature can reach above 300°C. The specific operating temperature is given separately according to the working conditions.

3. Low-temperature bearing working temperature:

Rolling bearings use high-carbon chromium stainless bearing steel, and their operating temperature is below -60°C. The specific working temperature is given separately according to the working conditions.
